Acts 1:8 Ministry

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Each month Beach Beacon features a ministry need from our community, our state or from around the world.  We collect items that fulfil their needs, send volunteers to help minister to our community and raise funds to allow these missions to provide for their needs and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our acts 1:8 Ministry for November are  Awana Missionaries, Brian and Joanelle Lunger.  The Beach Beacon Family Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 17 is one way you can support their ministry. 100% of the admission cost for the dinner will go directly to them.  We will also be collecting a Love offering each week in November at the welcome center or through our on-line giving portal.

Awana Missionaries - Brian and Joanelle Lunger

The prayer of Awana is that all children and youth through-out the world come to know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. This is also our prayer as we relentlessly pursue God and His will for our lives.  Little did we know that God prepared us through serving in children’s ministry together for almost 20 years. Our first exposure to the ministry of Awana came when our children, Katelynn and Ethan, were of age to enter Cubbies.

At an Awana Ministry Conference (AMC) in October of 2016, God was directing and calling us to be Awana Missionaries. That calling was confirmed in the early months of 2017 as we became Awana Missionary Appointees.  We started a new journey of complete trust in God and growing more in faith. In May of 2017, Brian left his 16-year banking career to focus on becoming an Awana Missionary.  Joanelle left her 19-year medical profession to support our ministry. Our purpose is to build relationships with churches, Pastors, Awana Ministry Directors, and Leaders, to equip them to make each Awana ministry strong and lasting to reach many generations to come with the Gospel of Christ.

God has been so good to us as we continue this journey of faith. On June 3, 2018, we were commissioned as Awana Missionaries from our home church, Bethany Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware. When we came onto the field, we ministered, and continue to minister to the 21 Awana churches in Delaware. Having a desire to minister to more churches, we prayed that God would bless us with growth. He answered that prayer in October prior to our Awana Ministry Conference.

Today, our footprint has expanded into the Eastern Shore of  Maryland and Virginia, Southeastern Virginia and this year we picked up additional Awana Clubs serving Northern Virginia. We are very humbled and thankful to help these churches reach more boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ!

Awana has over 100 missionaries in the U.S. serving the local church through the initiation and development of Awana programs. All Awana missionaries are “faith supported” and deputized to raise their own support. U.S. missionaries are responsible for area growth, church relations, volunteer team building and training. Our missionaries focus on building and maintaining healthy relationships with pastors, church leaders, volunteers and other ministries.
